The Sangguniang Panlungsod is asking the Baciwa-PrimeWater to study the possible suspension of the imposition of a minimum charge on consumers who have zero water consumption.

The SP approved this afternoon, March 14, the resolution authored by Councilor Claudio Jesus Puentevella, who noted that “many households suffered from zero water supply…due to the shortage or lack of water, caused by drought and dry spell brought about by the El Niño phenomenon.”

Puentevella, chairperson of the SP Committee on Energy and Public Utilities, said the power to impose or suspend charges is with the Baciwa-PrimeWater, hence the request.

As per the water rates posted on the website of the Bacolod City Water District, minimum charge for residential/government users is P208.

The SP has been receiving complaints of scarce to no water in several areas of Bacolod, including in Pueblo Rosario Village, Eroreco Subdivision, and neighboring puroks in Barangay Mandalagan, as well as from residents of Barangay Handumanan.

They slammed the poor service of the Baciwa-PrimeWater and asked for the city’s intervention. | CGC
