The Sangguniang Panlungsod of Bacolod and San Carlos in Negros Occidental are national finalists in the 2023 Local Legislative Award (LLA), high-urbanized and component city categories, respectively.
The Bacolod SP is the regional winner for Western Visayas and is up against 11 other highly-urbanized cities in the national LLA, with the grand winner to be announced tomorrow, Dec. 5, during the yearend assembly of the Philippine Councilors League (PCL) at the World Trade Center in Pasay City.
San Carlos, also the winner for Region 6, is vying for the national award against 12 other component cities.
The LLA was launched in 2006 by the PCL and the Department of the Interior and Local Government.
“The 2023 LLA recognizes the exemplary performance of city and municipal sanggunians from July 1, 2019 to June 30, 2022…and accords official recognition to SPs that excel in the enactment of ordinances and resolutions that ultimately contribute to the attainment of desirable socio-economic and environmental outcomes,” DILG Secretary Benhur Abalos said in Memorandum Circular 2023-092.
Each national winner will receive a trophy and a cash award, Abalos added.
Members of the Bacolod SP, led by Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran, are set to attend the awarding ceremony. | CGC
