PLDT and Smart employees, dependents, household members, and other priority residents were inoculated in Bacolod City through the continuing vaccination rollout of the city government, and strengthened through its partnership with PLDT-Smart Foundation and Metro Pacific Investments Corporation.

The partnership upholds the company’s core value of malasakit (concern), and working hand-in-hand with the MVP Group affiliate company MPIC, provided an initial 5,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine to Bacolod to fast-track the inoculation of more city residents.

Caption Employees of PLDT and Smart in Bacolod inoculated against COVID-19, and PLDT-Smart Foundation and Metro Pacific Investments Corporation also turned over vaccines to the city for its continuing vaccination rollout.

The allocation was part of the 10,000 vaccines that the two companies earmarked for the city government.

Bacolod City Administrator Em Ang, executive director of the Emergency Operations Center, thanked the PLDT-Smart Foundation for the donation.

“This will help our goal of reaching our herd immunity as soon as possible. We are also in the process of ramping up vaccination rollouts, especially in the barangays and the hard-to-reach communities in Bacolod,” she added.

Meanwhile, PLDT and wireless unit Smart Communications Inc. are mobilizing personnel, equipment, and relief aid as typhoon Jolina lashes Eastern Visayas and barrels towards Southern Luzon.

Quick response teams and mission-critical equipment have been prepositioned in provinces that are in the typhoon’s path, ready to repair communications that will be affected by ‘Jolina’.

Smart is also ready to deploy free calls, free charging, and free Wi-Fi stations to aid the communication needs of residents, who will be affected by the storm. In the past, these pop-up communication booths have become the lifeline for affected residents to connect with their relatives, it added.

The company has also frontloaded its retailers and business partners with inventory, so that they will have enough credits to offer customers in the coming days. –CGC
