Bacolod, NegOcc Palaro athletes win gold medals as WV advances to finals

Western Visayas earned a spot in the finals of Palarong Pambansa in Cebu City, with 34 gold medals, 24 silver, and 27 bronzes, as of the 2:30 p.m. medal tally July 14.

Several players from Bacolod City and Negros Occidental also earned gold medals in the national meet that started July 9, and will culminate tomorrow.

These include, for athletics, Mico Villaran of the Romanito P. Maravilla National High School in Bacolod City in the 400-meter hurdles and in the 110-meter hurdles, secondary boys, and Krisha Aguillon of Bacolod Tay Tung High School in yhe 100 meters secondary girls;

Swimming, Alexi Kouzenye Cabayaran, Bacolod Trinity Christian School, 50M backstroke secondary girls and in the 4x50M freestyle relay secondary girls with Juliana Dejilla of the University of St. La Salle, Leanne Clarisse Caspillo of Assumption Iloilo, and Julia Sohlen Orada of Pavia National High School; Maxene Hayley Uy of Lamblight International School in the 100M backstroke secondary girls; and Zyra Villarino of Victorias Elementary School in 400M freestyle elementary girls.

Lexi Mikayla Marcella of San Enrique Central School in Negros Occidental won the gold in table tennis doubles, elementary girls, with Bethany Adriel Esmeño of Sigma Central Elementary School in Capiz, while Christian Pelione of Mansilingan Agro-Industrial High School in Bacolod City made it in chess blitz team, secondary boys, with King Lanz Pamplona of Passi National High School.

In para games, the lone gold medalist from the province, so far, is Mary Hannah Brianna Diesto of Talisay Elementary School in Negros Occidental, in girls 50M backstroke swimming.

Western Visayas earned 20 gold, 18 silver, and 13 bronzes in para games, while in demo sports, there were five gold medals and a silver, as of the July 14 tally.

Meanwhile, the Bacolod Tay Tung High School that showcased their dominance and skill against Corpus Christi School of Cagayan de Oro, representing Northern Mindanao, in the secondary girls’ volleyball semifinals July 14.
