Bacolod Mayor Greg Gasataya reminded city government employees and licensed firearm owners Sept. 21 to secure their weapons and prevent unauthorized access by minors.
Addressing employees during the weekly flag-raising ceremony at the Bacolod City Government Center, Gasataya discussed gun safety protocols and the responsibilities of public servants, who own licensed firearms.
“As responsible firearm owners, you need to ensure that the children should have no access to it,” he said, noting the incidents in South Cotabato and Zamboanga City, where student-shooters obtained firearms belonging to family members employed in government service, including a police officer and a Department of Education employee.
Gasataya noted that while authorities continue to support campus security measures, household firearm access remains a factor in the overall safety.
He requested that gun owners implement proper home storage methods to ensure that weapons are inaccessible to children and other household members. | TMD
