The Bacolod City government is in favor of the recommendation of the National Economic and Development Authority for a four-day work week arrangement.
City Administrator, Atty. Joseph Edward Cuansing, said they are waiting for the final decision of President Rodrigo Duterte on this recommendation from NEDA.
If the national government will not push through with the plan, Cuansing said the city may push for the four-day work week, through an executive order, if there’s need and if the situation would warrant such implementation.
The NEDA came up with the recommendation last week as one way to minimize fuel expenses in government offices and so as not to further burden government workers, with the rising cost of petroleum products.
Normal work for all employees at the Bacolod Government Center resumed since March 1 when Bacolod was placed under Alert Level 1 and Mayor Evelio Leonardia suspended all other work arrangements, like work from home and flexible hours.
Leonardia also issued an EO extending the alert level 1 status of Bacolod until the end of this month, with curfew hours still from 12 midnight until 4 a.m., and the liquor ban lifted. More schools were also permitted to conduct in-person classes. | MML
