The inflation rate for all income households in Bacolod City in May was at 4.5 percent, from 3.9 percent in April, the Philippine Statistics Authority-Negros Occidental said.

The rise in inflation rate was due to slight increases in the indices of some commodities like food and non-alcoholic beverages, clothing and footwear, housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels, and transport, PSA-NegOcc chief statistical specialist, Joh Campomanes, said in a summary inflation report and consumer price index for all income households.

Lower inflation rates, meanwhile, were observed in the indices of commodities like furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance, alcoholic beverages and tobacco, health, recreation/sports and culture, and personal care and miscellaneous goods and services, Campomanes added.

Negros Occidental’s inflation rate, meanwhile, slightly decreased to 4.2 percent from 4.4 percent in April.

The PSA said there were some commodities with negative growth rates, like food and non-alcoholic beverages, furnishing/household equipment and routine household maintenance, health, and personal care and miscellaneous goods and services.

The inflation rate in Western Visayas in May stood at 4.3 percent, from 4.1 percent the month prior, and 3.9 percent, from 3.8 percent in April, in the national level, the PSA said. | CGC
