About 30 members of the Philippine Dental Association Inc. Bacolod City Chapter received their COVID-19 booster shots Nov. 19 at the Bacolod City Health Office.

Chapter president, Dr. Realeza Ludovice, led those given the added protection as they continue to provide service to the city amid the pandemic.

The booster inoculation follows the guidelines under a DOH memorandum on the administration of the third dose to priority group A1, or essential workers in the frontline health services.

“We need additional dose…to excite our immune system and to give our body a proper amount of immune response in case the COVID virus will enter our system again,” CHO officer-in-charge, Dr. Edwin Miraflor, said in a press release from the city.

Seven Bacolod hospitals and the Ayala Malls Capitol Central are designated to administer booster doses to the A1 group, Miraflor added, and said the Department of Health is expected to release the guidelines on booster shots for the A2, or senior citizens, by Dec. 6.

Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia, who was with Miraflor and Emergency Operations Center-Task Force executive director Em Ang during the booster shot rollout, also encouraged unvaccinated residents to take part in the National Vaccination Day on Nov. 29 to Dec. 1.

“This is one way for us to achieve herd immunity and a safer Bacolod,” Leonardia said.

The event was also attended by EOC medical deputy Anna Maria Laarni Pornan, and Dr. Grace Tan of the CHO. | NND
