Messages of sympathy poured in for the family of Patrolman Val Liansing, who died in a reported case of accidental gun discharge in his house in Purok Punay, Brgy. Mansilingan, Bacolod City Oct. 30.

Initial report from Police Station 7 showed that, at around 11:40 this morning, they received a call from the Cropper Rescue Group of an explosion heard from the house of Liansing. When responding policemen forcibly opened the door, they saw the victim with wounds in his lower jaw and right forehead, and rushed him to the Bacolod Adventist Medical Center.

P/Col. Thomas Joseph Martir, BCPO director, said that Liansing was declared dead at about 3:40 p.m. Oct. 30, by attending physician, Dr. Greg Capada, almost four hours after the incident.

Messages of sympathy poured in for the family of Patrolman Val Liansing, who died in a reported case of accidental gun discharge in his house in Purok Punay, Brgy. Mansilingan, Bacolod City Oct. 30.

P/Capt. Elmer Bonilla, PS7 commander, said that Liansing, 24, temporarily assigned at the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office, may have accidentally shot himself while cleaning his gun, based on the firearm cleaning supplies found at the scene.

Bonilla said Liansing and the gun will be subjected to paraffin and ballistic testing.

Liansing was reported to have been slated to report as an augmentation cop to the EB Magalona Police Station, when the accident took place.

“Rest easy my good, good fellow,” Bacolod Councilor Israel Salanga posted on his Facebook page at 4:47 p.m. Sunday that already generated more than 100 comments, almost all of them condolences and messages of sympathy.

Liansing grew up inside the Home for the Blind in Barangay Mansilingan, with his mother, stepfather, and most of his siblings also blind.

Last month, he and his family won the 2022 National Search for Salaysay ng Buhay ng Pamilyang Pantawid, formerly called Huwarang Pantawid Pamilya, for his essay, titled “Mata”, in the Sa Mata ng Batang 4Ps category.

In his essay, Liansing recalled the many hardships he experienced growing up as breadwinner of the family. “Lumaki akong halos napag-daanan ko na lahat ng mga trabaho katulad ng pagiging trisikad driver, kargador sa palengke, pangangalakal, construction helper, at pintor habang ako ay nag-aaral upang makatulong din sa aking pamilya. Bukod dito, ako ang tumayong ama ng aming tahanan dahil ako palagi ang inaasahan ni inay sa mga gawaing bahay dahil nga ako lamang ang nakakakita”.

He said it was in 2014 when their family became a beneficiary of the government’s 4Ps. He finished his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture course in 2018 through the Extended Student Grant-in-Aid Program for Poverty Alleviation.

He worked as clerk in the office of one of the councilors in Bacolod, who encouraged him to take the Napolcom exam upon learning of his dream of becoming a policeman, and helped him with his financial needs during the police training.

Liansing completed his training in August 2020 and became a patrolman./CGC, GPB
