The Philippine Misereor Partnership Inc. (PMPI) will hold its 7th General Assembly on March 4 to 7 at Acacia Hotel in Bacolod City.

In a press release, the organizers said that this year marks a significant milestone as PMPI commemorates its 20th year since its inception and the assembly will celebrate its impact on Philippine society over the past two decades.

This year’s theme, “PMPI@Twenty – Transformative Work for Environment and Nature’s rights Through the Years” is set against the backdrop of climate emergency, deteriorating human rights situations, and ongoing environmental destruction, the organizers said.

The assembly aims to highlight the partnership’s journey in responding to urgent social and environmental issues and advocate for peace, human rights, social development, and will serve as a platform for partners to share new campaign strategies, exchange good practices, and celebrate small victories amid adversities and threats to human rights and environmental defenders, they added.

During the assembly, participants will engage in discussions to craft the network’s advocacy direction for the next three years to ensure PMPI remains at the forefront of positive change in Philippine society.

Yolanda Esguerra, PMPI national coordinator, said that PMPI believes in the power of collaboration, partnerships, and community engagement.

“Since 2003, we have been working to empower communities to claim their rights and drive positive change for humanity’s well-being. We intend to expand this perspective by ensuring that nature is also given a voice in society by pushing for the recognition of their inherent rights. We recognize that we can only achieve a sustainable future for humans if we respect the health and integrity of the ecosystem that we are a part of,” Esguerra added. ||
