The Bacolod City Water District management is eyeing to elevate the case of the dismissed employees to the Civil Service Commission main office, after the CSC Region 6 denied its motion for reconsideration of the order reinstating the workers.
Baciwa acting general manager, Engr. Mike Soliva, said they have anticipated the CSC 6 denial of the motion for reconsideration.
He said they will wait for comments from the Office of the Government Corporate Counsel (OGCC) on the next legal course to be made.
The CSC 6 denied the appeal of Baciwa to reconsider its earlier order to reinstate the 59 workers who were terminated due to redundancy and refused the retirement package offer.
Labor leader Wennie Sancho, meanwhile, said labor laws should be construed liberally and interpreted in favor of the employees.
He added that, for the second time, the CSC 6 said it would be best that the workers will be reinstated and paid their back wages, from the time of their termination up to the time of reinstatement.
The Baciwa management should reinstate the workers out of compassion, Sancho stressed.
“The Board of Directors should give the employees a chance and consider their interest, instead of filing another legal step because this remedy will only prolong the agony of the workers,” he added. — MML
