An Army soldier was injured in renewed armed clashes with suspected New People’s Army members March 16 in Sitio Ulot, Brgy. Buenavista, Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental.
Brig. Gen. Inocencio Pasaporte, 303rd Infantry Brigade commander, said that the gunbattle ensued after the 94th Infantry Battalion and 33rd Division Reconnaissance Company soldiers responded to reports of civilians on the presence of about 10 armed men in their community.
Pasaporte said the firefight lasted for about seven minutes and the suspected rebels fled to different directions. Traces of bloodstains were seen along their withdrawal route, he said.
An Army soldier, who was slightly injured in his right arm, was immediately airlifted to a private hospital in Bacolod City for treatment.
Pursuit operations are still ongoing against the fleeing rebels, as of this time, Pasaporte said./GB
