Army soldier dies in road accident

A Philippine Army soldier died in a vehicular accident along the national highway of Crossing Ambush in Barangay Manalad, Ilog, Negros Occidental on July 6.

Police identified the fatality as PFC John Leo Saldua, a member of the 15th Infantry Battalion.

He was declared dead on arrival at the Lorenzo Zayco District Hospital in Kabankalan City.

Saldua succumbed to head and leg injuries, the police report said.

Initial investigation indicated that Saldua, who was driving a blue Yamaha motorcycle, tried to overtake a tricycle, but instead collided head on with a Ceres Liner passenger bus.

He was dragged for about 10 meters, it added.

The bus driver, identified as Ryan Miraveles, is now under the custody of the Ilog Police Station. | GB
