Soldiers of the Philippine Army’s 15th Infantry Battalion (IB) and New People’s Army remnants yesterday figured in two encounters at Sitio Cambaga in Barangay Yaoyao, Cauayan, Negros Occidental.

The first encounter took place at about 4:25 p.m. after government troops responded to reports of civilians regarding the presence of five armed rebels.

Lt. Col. J-Jay Javines, public affairs chief of the 3rd Infantry Division, said the encounter lasted for five minutes and the rebels eventually withdrew.

Soldiers caught up with the fleeing rebels, which led to another gunbattle that also lasted for about five minutes.

Nobody among the soldiers was hurt in two encounters, as pursuit and clearing operations were still ongoing as of last night, Javines said | GB
