Twenty seven more assorted firearms and two fragmentation grenades were surrendered by their respective owners to the police in cities of Silay and Talisay through “Armas Baylo Bugas (Rice for Loose Firearms) ” campaign of the  1st Provincial Mobile Force Company of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office.

Owners of loose firearms are entitled to receive a sack of rice for every gun to the police.

          The program aims to establish and regain the trust and confidence of the community to the police and to help those who lost their jobs due to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.

          The owners of the assorted guns and explosives are residents of Barangays Kapitan Ramon, Guimbalaon and Mambulac in Silay City, as well as Barangay Dos Hermanas in Talisay City.

          In exchange, the owners of the loose firearms received one sack of rice, said Lt. Col. Nasser Canja, commander of the 1st Provincial Mobile Force Company.

          Those who facilitated the surrender of the guns and explosives received a half sack of rice, Canja said.

          Since the launching of the program in September, 72 firearms and explosives were surrendered to the 1st PMFC which is operates in cities of Talisay, Silay, Escalante, as well as EB Magalona and Salvador Benedicto towns.

          The campaign against the proliferation of loose firearms is in line with the “Birada Semana” campaign of Police Regional Office 6. – GPB
