Another suspected remnant of the New People’s Army died in an encounter with Army soldiers and police troopers in Barangay Cambayobo, Calatrava on Wednesday.

Lt. Col. J-Jay Javines, public affairs chief of 3rd Infantry Division, said on Thursday that the encounter broke out in Sitio Manaysay after the joint forces of 79th Infantry Battalion and 1st Negros Occidental Provincial Mobile Force Company responded to reports of residents on the presence of about seven remnants of the dismantled Northern Negros Front (NNF).

Javines said that the 10-minute firefight resulted in the death of NPA remnant Jeje Redobles.

Recovered from the encounter site were an M16 assault rifle, a hand grenade, medicines, assorted foodstuff, war materials, and personal belongings.

The death of Redobles came a day after a remnant of the dismantled Central Negros 1 guerilla front identified as Richard de la Pena, alias Rocky, also died in an encounter with 62nd Infantry Battalion soldiers in Barangay Quintin Remo, Moises Padilla.

De la Peña was involved in the murder of Albert Navaro Goles, alias Tongkay, on April 24 in Sitio Coyaoyao, Barangay Inolingan in the same locality.

Soldiers recovered an M16 assault rifle with two bandoleers containing three magazines of ammunition, a caliber 357 revolver and a back pack containing subversive documents from the two encounter sites. | GB
