Another policeman dies in motorcycle accident

Within a period of three days, two police officers died in motorcycle accidents in Negros Occidental, police records showed.

PCpl. Edward Peña, 36, died on Monday (Feb. 26) during the incident along the national highway of Hacienda Bernabe in Barangay Salvacion, Murcia town.

PCapt. Rodney Sarona, Murcia deputy police chief, said that Peña was on his way home from work when his motorcycle sideswiped a passenger tricycle.

Peña, a member of the Murcia Municipal Police Station, suffered head injuries and was declared dead at a hospital.

He was not wearing a helmet, Sarona said.

Tricycle driver Rizzy Tanaleo, 31, is being investigated by the police.

On Feb. 23, PStaff Sgt. Ronnie Gamboa Jr. also died in a vehicular accident along the national highway of Hacienda Reboton in Barangay Tinampa-an, Cadiz City.

Gamboa, 35, a member of Sagay City Police Station, was then on his way home to Cadiz City from the police station, PCapt. Gina Fernandez, deputy police chief, said. | GB
