About 10 unidentified armed men shot and killed another barangay captain Aug. 26 in Brgy. Lalong, Calatrava, Negros Occidental.
The victim was identified by the police as Lalong barangay chairman Benjamen Javoc, 54.
Initial investigations of the Calatrava police showed that the armed men also took the P20,000 cash and other personal belongings of the victim, before fleeing from the scene of incident.
Javoc was the second barangay chairman to be killed in Negros Occidental, following the death of Danilo Dautil of Cabcab, in Isabela town on Aug. 25.
Lt. Col. J-Jay Javines, 79th Infantry Battalion commander, yesterday said that a group of armed rebels went to the house Javoc, and shot him dead, before ransacking his home.
Javines said the armed group, led by Arnel Tapang, also took the cash and other personal belongings of the victim, after they failed to recover any firearms./GB
