Bacolod City Administrator and Em Legaspi-Ang confirmed her plans of running for city councillor in next year’s elections after attending the Sept. 3 meeting of Grupo Progreso.

Ang, who is also the Executive Director of the Bacolod Emergency Operations Center, said her name was included in the list of nominees that the party will choose to complete its slate for the May 2, 2022 polls.

The Grupo Progreso occupies 11 of the 12 seats in the Bacolod City Council.  At present, there are at least two vacant slots in its slate with Councilor Anne Marie Palermo serving her last term, and the late Councilor Elmer Sy, who passed away a couple of months ago.

Aside from her, Ang said there are six other nominees for the vacant spots and it is up to Mayor Evelio Leonardia to choose the new members of Grupo Progreso.

Ang is the daughter of former City Councilor and lawyer Constancio Legaspi. She joined Bacolod politics in 2010 and completed her three terms as member of the Sangguniang Panlungsod.

She was with the City Tourism Office in 2019 before Leonardia appointed her as City Administrator in 2020, replacing Atty. John Orola. – MML
