Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson said Feb. 24 that he respects the decision of officials of San Carlos City and the 1st District of the province to support the presidential bid of former senator Bongbong Marcos and that of his running mate, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio for vice president, in the May 9 elections.
“It’s OK, that’s their personal choice. They will campaign for their candidates, and I’ll campaign for my candidate,” Lacson said.
While the governor has yet to categorically state that he is supporting the candidacy of Vice President Leni Robredo, he said he will attend the grand rally of her team next month in Negros Occidental if he will be invited.
San Carlos City Mayor Renato Gustilo earlier confirmed that Lacson is supporting the presidential bid of Robredo.
Lacson, meanwhile, congratulated Vice Governor Jeffrey Ferrer for the successful opening salvo of the UniTeam in Bacolod City Feb. 23.
Only the mayors of Sipalay, Sagay, and Cadiz did not attend the gathering of the UniTeam at Stonehill Suites in Bacolod, that was also graced by former president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, several congressmen of Negros Occidental, Sipalay City Vice Mayor Oscar Montilla, and other politicians. | GB
