Amid clarificatory questions of Silay City government on the proposed P1.2-billion Negros Occidental Bulk Water Supply Project (NBWSP), Provincial Legal Officer Alberto Nellas Jr. said on Tuesday (June 11) that the bidding will push through on June 27.

Some 11 firms have bought bid documents during the pre-bid conference conducted by the provincial government in partnership with the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Center and the Asian Development Bank.

Mayor Joedith Gallego earlier said that some Silaynons expressed fears of a water shortage if the project pushes through.

The project is tapping the unsubscribed surface water of Imbang and Malogo Rivers that pass through the local government units of Silay City, Victorias City, Talisay City and E.B. Magalona town.

Nellas said that Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz II, before serving his six-month suspension ordered by the Office of the Ombudsman, ensured that there will be no hitches in the conduct of bidding on the part of the provincial government.

He added that lawyer Jessa Genteroles, the provincial focal person for PPP Projects, knows all the details and is in close contact with the bidders and the United States Agency for International Development-Safe Water Project. | GB
