The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has designated Maj. Gen. Peter Burgonio as the acting commander of the AFP Visayas Command (VISCOM), following the retirement of Lt. Gen. Fernando Reyeg from the military service.
Prior to his new position, Burgonio, a member of the Philippine Military Academy Class of 1993, served as commander of the Philippine Army’s 8th Infantry Division in Eastern Visayas.
He previously served also as commander of the Presidential Security Command as well as the Philippine Army Intelligence Regiment.

AFP chief of staff General Antonio Nafarrete presided over the installation of Burgonio as VISCOM chief on Wednesday, Aug. 12 in Cebu City.
Burgonio is supervising the two Army infantry divisions, including 3rd and 8th Infantry Divisions as well as the Air Force and Navy units in the Visayas.
In a statement, the AFP said Burgonio is expected to build on these accomplishments and continue advancing the command’s mission of protecting the Visayas while supporting the military’s strategic thrust toward territorial defense. | GPB
