We continue our 17-part sermon series on the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations, proudly supported by Central Philippine University.
Our focus this week is on the seventh goal: Affordable and Clean Energy. Our guiding scripture is Luke 12:48, which says, “From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked.”
First, be a steward of God’s gifts.
Luke 12:48 reminds us that with great blessings come great responsibilities. This verse highlights the principle of stewardship, emphasizing that those who have been entrusted with resources and opportunities must use them wisely and for the benefit of others.
As Christians, we recognize that the earth and its resources are gifts from God, and we are called to manage them responsibly.
Energy is one of these crucial resources. Access to affordable and clean energy is essential for improving quality of life, promoting economic development, and protecting the environment.
By investing in sustainable energy solutions, we honor God’s creation and ensure that we are using His gifts to benefit all of humanity. Our responsibility as stewards includes seeking ways to make energy more accessible and sustainable for everyone.
Second, remember that energy is crucial in the quality of life.
The SDG of Affordable and Clean Energy aims to ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all. Energy is foundational to almost every aspect of modern life, from lighting our homes to powering industries.
Lack of access to clean energy can hinder education, healthcare, and economic opportunities, trapping communities in cycles of poverty and inequality.
Central Philippine University, through its commitment to sustainable practices and education, is already making strides in this area.
The Church can support this mission by raising awareness about the importance of clean energy, advocating for policies that promote sustainability, and supporting initiatives that provide energy solutions to underserved communities. By doing so, we contribute to the overall well-being and development of our society.
Third, be part of the innovations and actions for sustainable energy.
The call to action in Luke 12:48 is clear: those who have been given much must do much. This means we need to be proactive and innovative in finding solutions to energy challenges.
Embracing renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, and hydroelectric power can reduce our dependence on fossil fuels, decrease pollution, and mitigate climate change.
The Church can lead by example, adopting sustainable energy practices in our buildings and activities. We can also encourage our members to consider their own energy consumption and explore renewable options.
Additionally, supporting research and development in clean energy technologies and participating in community projects that provide sustainable energy can make a significant impact.
As we reflect on Luke 12:48 and the goal of Affordable and Clean Energy, let us embrace our responsibility as stewards of God’s creation. By doing so, we honor God and contribute to a more just and sustainable world. | NWI
