
The Dr. Mariano Lao Innovation, Creation, and Invention (ICI) Laboratory of Silliman University distributed materials to barangay isolation facilities in Dumaguete City following the donation of Dr. Mariano Lao, 2018 Outstanding Sillimanian awardee.
Lao donated P250,000 to set up the Dr. Lao Quarantine Assistance Program for barangay isolation facilities.
The donation was used to buy electric fans, extension wires, single mattresses, pillows, and single-use thermometers.
As of September 4, barangays Looc, Piapi, Candau-ay, Daro, Motong, Balugo, Banilad, and Cadawinon in Dumaguete had already received the materials.
The Dr. Mariano Lao ICI Laboratory distributed the first batch of materials on August 29.
Meanwhile, the Dr. Mariano Lao Excellence Awards in Online Teaching/Learning was launched in time for Silliman University’s 120th Founders Day.
The search for the Dr. Mariano Lao Excellence in Online Teaching and the Dr. Mariano Lao Excellence in Learning Awards kicked off on August 28 as one of the surprise highlights of the Founders Day.
The Dr. Mariano Lao Excellence in Online Teaching Award recognizes university teachers who exemplify high standard of online teaching in the university. The award gives the opportunity to full-time faculty of any rank to be recognized for their passion and strong commitment to quality online teaching.
The Dr. Mariano Lao Excellence in Online Learning, meantime, recognizes students who exemplify high standard of online learning in the University. This award aims to recognize regular students of any program for their resiliency, hard work, and commitment to online distance learning.
The winners for both awards will be awarded next school year, similarly on Founders Day, on August 28, 2022. However, nominations will be accepted starting September 28, 2021 until May 30, 2022. Evaluation and validation of the nominations is set in June to July next year.
The Teaching Online Award is divided into the following categories: a) college or Senior High School teacher, and b) Early Childhood, Elementary, or Junior High School teacher, while the Student Online Award is divided into the following: college student; senior high school student; and, junior high school, elementary and kindergarten student.
The awardees will receive cash incentives from the Dr. Mariano Lao Innovation, Creation, and Invention Laboratory. – NWI
