Health worker Loida Marie Fregil of Barangay Zone 5, Talisay City, who is seven months pregnant, is the first expectant mom given the shot against COVID-19 in the city.
Fregil is an adolescent health counselor at the Talisay City Health Office, and is now on the last term of her pregnancy. She received her first dose of the Sinovac vaccine August 31 at the city public plaza.
She said she is well aware of the hazards of COVID-19 and knows that she and her baby are at higher risks of getting infected if she will not get vaccinated.
Pregnant and women who recently gave birth are at increased risks of getting severely ill with COVID. Fregil said she believes that the benefits of receiving the vaccine outweigh any known or potential risks of vaccination during pregnancy, a press release from the city said.
Talisay City Mayor Neil Lizares and City Health Officer Joy Guanzon congratulated the first pregnant health worker vaccinee.
“Kudos and congratulations Loida, we admire your courage and love for your baby. We will follow and be with you in this journey and may God continue to bless you with a healthy pregnancy and a safety delivery,” the press release added. —
