The family of E. B. Magalona Mayor Marvin Malacon set aside P500,000 for the purchase of COVID-19 vaccines, as the municipal government launched the “Adopt-A- Friend, Gugma mo Kaluwasan ko! Tumandok Cares” program.
The donation will allow more residents of EB Magalona to avail of the vaccines.
Based on the target of 70 percent of its population, some 40,000 town residents is expected to be vaccinated, Malacon said.
He admitted that the P15 million to be allocated by the municipal government for the purchase of the vaccines is not enough.
Malacon said that they are appealing for help from all sectors, including private firms and businesses, to take charge of the vaccines of their respective employees.
In a recent advisory, Interior and Local Government Undersecretary Epimaco Densing III directed all local chief executives to coordinate with the Department of Health and with vaccine czar Secretary Carlito Galvez prior to negotiation with suppliers and procurement of vaccines.
Due to the current limited supply of vaccines, LGUs intending to procure vaccines under authorized emergency use are advised to procure not more than 50 percent of their vaccine requirements, Densing added. – GB
