Police are looking into a possible lightning strike as the primary cause behind the death of a 36-year-old sugarcane laborer found in a field at Hacienda Sto. Niño Agho, Barangay Dos Hermanas in Talisay City Sept. 24.
The Talisay City Component Police Station said that the victim departed for work at around 2 p.m. Sept. 23 but did not return home that evening.
His mother and sister went to his worksite at around 5 o’clock the following morning and discovered him lying motionless on the ground with injuries.
Responding barangay officials rushed the victim to the Talisay City Health Office, but he was pronounced dead by an attend physician.
Preliminary medical evaluation revealed trauma consistent with severe electrical exposure, prompting the police to focus their inquiry on a potential lightning strike.
Meanwhile, a 21-year-old construction worker died after an unidentified assailant shot him multiple times outside his residence in Purok Sapa, Sitio Nacab, Barangay Bubog, Talisay Sept. 24.
Initial investigations revealed that the victim went outside his home at around 11 p.m. after hearing the dogs barking, suspecting that someone was lurking nearby.
The victim, armed with a flashlight, was followed by his father and younger sibling, the police said.
Reports said the younger sibling saw a male figure in an orange shirt taking cover near a tree moments before several gunshots rang out.
The victim was hit several times, and responding scene-of-the-crime operatives recovered six fired cartridge cases and one spent bullet of caliber .45 ammunition at the site.
The victim was rushed to the Talisay City Health Office but was declared dead at around 4:15 a.m. Sept. 25 by an attending physician.
Authorities have launched follow-up operations and inquiries to identify and arrest the gunman. | TMD
