Former Provincial Treasurer Nilda Generoso denied any participation in the unauthorized disposal of public documents at the Provincial Treasurer’s Office, shortly before she retired from the government recently, Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz said.
Generoso was issued a show cause order by Diaz after a Capitol security guard intercepted a casual employee carrying out of the Treasurer’s Office two black bags and a white sack containing receipts and collection reports at around 7 p.m. of November 26.
Diaz said the casual employee passed by a side door carrying the bags and the sack.
Generoso, according to Diaz, admitted that bringing official documents out of the office in the evening “is not right and illegal” but she denied ordering the job order employee to do it.
Diaz said that Generoso should allow the new Provincial Treasurer, Amy Grace Bolivar, to scrutinize the documents and to decide if it is relevant or not before its disposal.
“If there is a problem with regards to the availability of important documents because of what happened, an investigation will proceed, but if there is no problem and everything is intact, there is no issue,” Diaz pointed out.
The casual employee was also ordered to explain his side, according to Diaz.
“We don’t know yet its gravity, but we will evaluate if there is a grave effect,” Diaz said, adding that they would want to know also if that was the only incident, or it happened before.
Asked if it will have an effect to the processing of retirement papers of Generoso, Diaz said it will depend on the evaluation and if the incident will affect the performance of the new Provincial Treasurer. — GB
