A 50-year-old man was shot and killed by three unidentified assailants in Sitio Panggiasgiasan, Barangay Lalong, Calatrava, Negros Occidental, Aug. 23.

A report from the Calatrava Municipal Police Station said that “Jundy”, married, of the barangay, was on his way to Barangay Bago in the neighboring town of Don Salvador Benedicto to run errands at the local market when he was confronted by three individuals.

The three opened fire on the victim, hitting him multiple times in different parts of his body. He died on the spot.

Police noted that “Jundy” was only a few meters away from his house when the shooting occurred. His wife witnessed the attack and saw the shooters fleeing afterwards.

Recovered at the crime scene were several empty cartridge casings of a .45 caliber firearm.

Due to the area’s difficult terrain and limited accessibility, the police said it has coordinated with barangay officials and community trackers to assist in the ongoing search.

Investigations are continuing to determine the motive behind the attack, and the identities of the assailants. | TMD
