Additional African swine fever (ASF) cases have been detected in two more barangays in Bacolod City, bringing the total number of affected areas in the city to four, as of July 24.
The City Veterinary Office (CVO) confirmed that hogs in Barangay Granada and Barangay Bata tested positive for the viral swine disease.
In Bata, both initial and confirmatory laboratory tests on two collected blood samples yielded positive results.
The CVO previously reported four ASF cases in barangays Alijis and Taculing, and one additional from the random sampling conducted in the city’s slaughterhouse.
“We urge all hog raisers in the affected barangays to heighten their biosecurity measures and immediately report any unusual illness or mortality among swine,” Dr. Marie Janine Sarthou, assistant city veterinarian, said.
City Administrator, Atty. Mark Steven Mayo, said the enforcement of border control is being assessed to determine if it is still necessary, since there are already ASF cases in Bacolod. | TMD
