Dumaguete’s Kabulakan Festival celebrates culture, community spirit

The streets of Dumaguete City in Negros Oriental came alive as the much-awaited Kabulakan Festival 2026 street dance and showdown May 22 turned the capital into a vibrant celebration of culture, creativity, and community spirit.

From dazzling flower-inspired costumes to powerful performances filled with rhythm, grace, and energy, every contingent brought color and excitement that captivated the crowd.

The passion of every dancer and performer truly showcased the beauty, artistry, and rich cultural pride of Dumaguete and Negros Oriental, the Capitol said in a press release May 24.

The festival, which returned after more than a decade of hiatus, was more than just a competition, it was a joyful gathering of people united in celebration, tradition, and love for the city, it added. “Every beat, every step, and every smile made Kabulakan 2026 a truly unforgettable experience.”

Contingent 7 of Barangay Piapi won the championship trophy, and almost all of the minor awards, including Best in Musicality, Best in Production, Best in Street Dance, and Festival Queen.

Contingent 6 or Barangay Calindagan was second placer and Best in Arch Formation, while Contingent 2 of Barangay Daro won the third place. | Capitol PIO photos
