Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson on Monday, March 9 led the opening of the “Babae” Art Exhibit, which honors and celebrates women through art by showcasing various works inspired by their strength, stories, and contributions to society this National Women’s Month.
The exhibit features pieces by various artists, highlighting the role of women as sources of inspiration in the creative community while promoting appreciation for their impact on culture, heritage, and everyday life.
The opening event, held at the Provincial Capitol lobby in Bacolod City, was attended by the Negros Artists’ Group led by its president, Patty Jane Ku Ong, Third District Board Member Hope Marey Depasucart, and Provincial Gender and Development Focal Point System action officer Marie June Castro.

Lacson said the exhibition and the lives of Negrense women in every sector are reminders that women’s leadership is not only vital but transformative.
“This celebration reminds us that the journey toward gender equality is not only about programs and policies, but about culture, how we see, value, and celebrate the role of women in our society,” he added.
Lacson also thanked the Negrense artists for lending their creativity to the celebration, adding that their works inspire reflection, conversation, and appreciation for the strength, wisdom, and leadership of women.
The 2026 National Women’s Month is themed “WE for Gender Equality and Inclusive Society,” supported by the sub-theme “Lead Like the Babaylans, Filipinas!”
The exhibit at the Capitol lobby will run until March 31. ||
