Negros Electric and Power Corp. (Negros Power) has restored 99.99 percent of electricity service across its franchise area in central Negros as Nov. 28.

The devastation brought by Typhoon Dino on Nov. 4 caused widespread power interruptions in the cities of Bacolod, Silay, Talisay, and Bago as well as the municipalities of Murcia and Don Salvador Benedicto.

Engr. Bailey del Castillo, Negros Power chief operations officer, said that only 24 of the 244,915 of its customers have still no power.

Del Castillo said the remaining unenergized area is located in mountainous peak of Barangay Canlandog in Murcia, where extreme terrain and continuous rains have delayed final restoration.

Despite the challenging conditions, Del Castillo said Negros Power personnel continues to push through the power restoration as soon as possible.

“With the area being inaccessible to vehicles, the restoration team struggled on rough terrain, slippery slopes, and repair points, forcing them to carry equipment and materials manually,” he added. “Our team had to exit early due to weather conditions and low visibility as safety always comes first.”

Full power in the remaining area will be restored as soon as conditions allow, Negros Power said. | GB
