Bacolod City, the 2024 Most Business-Friendly Local Government Unit (LGU) among the provincial highly-urbanized cities, is eyeing recognition after making it to the competition’s shortlist again this year.
The Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) announced Sept. 18 that Bacolod, together with Baguio, Butuan, Cagayan, and Iloilo, is included in the Top 5 LGUs under the City Level 1B for the 2025 Most Business-Friendly LGU Awards.
“These outstanding cities have showcased exemplary leadership in advancing local economic development, promoting competitiveness, and creating a business-friendly environment that uplifts communities and enterprises alike,” the PCCI said in a statement.
Frances Mae Llamas, head of the Bacolod City Department of Local Economic Development and Investment Promotions, said the recognition is a testament to the city’s unwavering commitment to fostering a vibrant and supportive environment for entrepreneurs and investors.
“We are incredibly happy to once again be included in this distinguished roster of finalists. This achievement reflects the tireless efforts of the local government to streamline processes, champion good governance, and promote digital transformation,” she said in an interview.
Llamas said that by working closely with the business community, the city government has institutionalized initiatives to make it easier for investors to start and grow their business in Bacolod.
Last year, Bacolod bested the four other finalists – Iloilo, Baguio, Cagayan de Oro, and Mandaue.
Aside from receiving the recognition in 2024, Bacolod was also a recipient of the Most Business-Friendly LGU Award in 2021 and 2007. | PNA
