Stockton, California hosted the Jiu Jitsu World League-Golden State Championship at the Adventist Health Arena Sept. 6, and Negros’ pride, Sunny “Pin” Diego, did not disappoint as he bagged the gold medal.

Pin, who took his students from his own academy in Yucaipa, California, to compete with him was even happier as his students – Eric Doyle and Andres Garcia – won silver medals, and Damien Bahlman the gold.

Jiu Jitsu World League is one of the biggest tournaments for Jiu Jitsu in the USA and the world, while the Golden State Championship is a major competition in California.

Pin said he is very happy to represent Alliance Jiu Jitsu, more so in front of his family in the USA. He said he was pleased to win the championship in front of his cousins Joker, Haydee, Nene, and Jhune, with the victory made even more special for it was their first time to see him fight.

Pin said he really loves to represent Bacolod City and Negros Island every time he competes in the USA. He believes he can inspire a lot of Negrenses to join Jiu Jitsu in the future.

He is also a big supporter of all Negros Jiujiteiros, and believes that, when he’s back in Negros someday, he could teach the art to a lot of people. ||
