A member of the Civilian Armed Forces Geographical Unit (CAFGU) was injured in a clash with remnants of the New People’s Army in the hinterlands of Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental on Wednesday (Sept. 3).
The encounter, which took place in Sitio Balao, Barangay Carol-an, happened after soldiers of the Philippine Army’s 94th Infantry Battalion (IB) responded to reports of the presence of seven to 10 armed rebels in the area.
The have been harassing the locals for refusing to support them, 94IB commander Lt. Col. Zeigfred Tayaban said.
More than 100 families from sitios of Balao, Palawis, Alambihod and Bulusan were evacuated during the encounter, according to the city government.
They are now being assisted by the City Social Welfare and Development Office. | GB
