Taxpayers can now pay their business taxes using the GCash mobile app in their own cellular phones as part of efforts of the Dumaguete local government, through the City Treasurer’s Office, to streamline transactions and minimize long queues, particularly during deadlines.

Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo approved the GCash mode of payment, consistent with his administration’s thrust to improve the ease of doing business through the popular e-wallet payment service deemed to be more secured, faster and convenient, to encourage prompt and accurate payment of business taxes, the city said.

City Administrator Lilani Ramon said the GCash mobile app complements the operations of the Electronic Business Permit Licensing System (eBPLS), which generates the Tax Order Payment that indicates the tax due of every taxpayer, paid quarterly or annually, based on gross receipts.

To avail of the mobile payment service, a taxpayer needs to open the GCash app on his/her smartphone, tap “Bills” to go to the “Pay Bills Section”, select “Government” as biller category, choose “City of Dumaguete-Business Tax”, enter required details, such as amount, business identification number, full name of taxpayer, mobile number, tax year, notes and email address (optional)”.

Review the details and then tap “pay” to finalize the payment, the city said June 20.

Remollo said the launching of the mobile payment app is another strategy of the local government to reduce red tape and eliminate malfeasance in the payment of taxes to promote ease in doing business and improve the collection efficiency of the City Treasurer’s Office. ||
