The Dumaguete City Engineer’s Office said the second phase of the P26 million flood control project in barangays Banilad and Mangnao has started.
The first phase of the construction of the wide drainage canal, from Banilad-Mangnao national highway to Ihalason Beach, has been completed, it added.
The administration of Mayor Ipe Remollo allocated P26 million for the flood control project eyed as a more sustainable solution to the flood that residents and motorists often experience, especially during the rainy season and typhoons.

The work of the Department of Public Works and Highways, with a different allocation, has also reached the Banilad highway, and will link with the wide drainage canal project of the local government.
The flood control project includes the widening of boulder dikes, and installing box culvert and drainage to control and track the usual route of the floodwater, from Valencia to Lagnasan Creek to Ihalason Beach, to prevent an overflow, the city said in a press release June 19.
With the cooperation of the local government and the DPWH, the project aims to provide a lasting solution and ensure the safety of residents and motorists in Banilad-Mangnao. ||
