Authorities in Region 7 reported a safe and solemn Holy Week, with no major incidents recorded across Central Visayas during the week-long observance.

The Police Regional Office 7 said April 20 that from April 14 to Easter Sunday, thousands of faithful gathered in churches, pilgrimage sites, and public spaces to participate in deeply-rooted religious traditions.

Holy Week concluded without any major incident or threat to public safety, the PRO7 said, adding this is mainly due to the comprehensive security and public safety plan and cooperation from the public.

Key interventions included the deployment of police personnel to churches, processional routes, major transport terminals, ports, and tourist destinations; the activation of police assistance desks and barangay peacekeeping units to assist and monitor activities; and the implementation of crowd control and traffic management systems to ensure a smooth flow in highly congested areas.

Close coordination with religious leaders and civic volunteers was also crucial in the effective event planning and execution even as police visibility and regional response capacity were heightened particularly in known convergence points, the PRO7 said.

PRO7 director, Brig. Gen. Redrico Maranan, commended the discipline, cooperation, and vigilance of the public, who observed the week’s religious events with reverence and a strong sense of community.

All religious activities proceeded without disruption, adhering to established schedules and safety advisories, he noted as he thanked everyone for the support and cooperation.

“The successful and peaceful observance of Holy Week 2025 across Region 7 reflects the strong faith, discipline, and unity of our kababayans,” Maranan stressed in a statement. “I extend my deepest appreciation to our police, responders, volunteers, local leaders, and the entire community for ensuring a safe and meaningful observance. May this ongoing spirit of cooperation and reverence inspire peace and solidarity across our region.”

He assured the public of continued efforts to safeguard major events and uphold peace and order in Region 7, adding the peaceful Holy Week observance served as a strong model for future activities, highlighting the impact of shared responsibility and proactive engagement. ||
