Fire hits 31 market stalls in Bacolod

An early morning fire hit 31 stalls at the Central Market in Barangay 12, Bacolod City on Friday (Dec. 13), according to the Bureau of Fire and Protection (BFP).

Of the affected stalls, 18 were destroyed by the blaze, which also damaged 13 others.

While nobody was hurt, the BFP placed the estimated damage at P4.752 million.

Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez, who inspected the scene of fire incident, said he will look for funds to be extended to the fire victims.

Benitez said that he will also look for a temporary relocation site for them, pending the repair and rehabilitation of Central Market.

He ordered the BFP to conduct an audit and inspection of other public markets, such as the Libertad and Burgos markets, to avoid the occurrence of similar fire incident. | GB
