More than 300 students from culinary and hospitality management schools across Negros Island are participating in the 2nd MassKanamit culinary showdown that opened Oct. 16 at SMX Convention Center at SM Bacolod.

This year’s cookfest features innovations that emphasize more local and traditional dishes, including the famous laswa and the beloved Visayan dish KBL (kadyos, baboy, langka).

There are also competitions for pica-pica, cakes, street foods, and more, the Bacolod Yuhum Foundation (BYF) said, adding the faceoff is in line with the 8th Sabor Bisaya Food Expo.

The opening Wednesday, that featured renowned celebrity chefs, was also attended by city officials, MassKara Festival chairman Jojie Dingcong, HRANO president Roberto Magalona, and BYF Food Committee chairperson Ana Tison, among others.

Today will be last day of the competition, with the awarding ceremony taking place in the afternoon.

Meanwhile, the stunning Saffron Hall of Roy’s Hotel is set to be transformed into a grand ballroom as the BYF plays host to one of the highlights of this year’s MassKara Festival – the MassKarade Ball 2024: Sapphirus.

Set against the backdrop of the sapphire celebration of the world-renowned festival, the gathering will honor the city’s dynamic spirit with Sapphirus: a night of luxury, glamour, and elegance on Oct. 25 starting at 6:45 p.m., promising an unforgettable evening of grandeur.

Last year’s MassKarade Ball saw numerous prominent personalities fly in from all over the country to witness the spectacular event.
