The Ramon Teves Pastor Memorial Dumaguete Science High School (RTPM-DSHS) was declared the overall champion of the 36th Sandurot Festival, and won P2 million worth of project, during the showdown held at the Pantawan People’s Park in Dumaguete City Sept. 28.
RTPM-DSHS performers bested 12 other contingent in an intense four-hour extravaganza, with the Dumaguete City National High School in second place; Junob NHS and Barangay Motong, third; and Taclobo NHS in fourth spot.
In the Pasundalan streetdance competition, Barangay Cadawinonan dancers clinched the first spot, followed by Junob NHS, and Barangay Motong in third place.
In the Pasundayag showdown competition barangay category, first place was Brgy. Motong, second – Poblacion 8, and third – Cadawinonan.
Best in Choreography for streetdance was Barangay Cadawinonan; Best in Choreography for Showdown (school) RTPM-DSHS; Best in Choreography for Showdown (barangay) Poblacion 8; Best Costume, Barangay Motong; Best Instrumentalist, Junob National High School; Most Disciplined Contingent, RTPM-DSHS; and Most Innovative Music Award, Junob National High School, the city said.
Non-winners will each receive P300,000 worth of projects as consolation prize, the city added.
Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo congratulated all the participating schools and barangays, especially the winners for their hard work and dedication to retell the proud story of Dumaguete in Sandurot through dance, music, and artistry.
Thousands of enthusiastic supporters flocked to the Pantawan People’s Park to cheer for their favorite contingents as they performed their best, marshaling all the creativity, choreography, interpretation, and proficiency they can muster as proud representatives of their schools and barangays.
The other participating contingents are Camanjac National High School, Barangay Looc, Piapi High School, Barangay Buñao, Hermenegilda F. Gloria Memorial High School, and Barangay Junob.
Aside from Remollo, the other city officials present at the closing ceremony were Vice Mayor Ma. Isabel Sagarbarria, councilors Karissa Tolentino-Maxino, Maria Marife Cordova, Jose Baldado, Bernice Anne Elmaco, Rey Lyndon Lawas, Antonio Remollo, Franklin Esmeña Jr., and Jose Victor Imbo, with SK President Miguel Aseniero, assistant city administrator Dr. Dinno Depositario, former ex-officio councilor Renz Macion, and former Piapi punong barangay Clark Labi.
Remollo and the organizers, led by the City Tourism Office, under Katherine Therese-Aguilar, thanked all the sponsors and government agencies that supported the safe and successful conduct of 36th edition of Sandurot Festival.
The thousands in attendance also witnessed the grand fireworks display at the conclusion of the awarding ceremony. ||
