The Victorias City Council has set a record of having approved the highest number of ordinances and resolutions in more than two years under the stewardship of Vice Mayor Abelardo Bantug III, Mayor Javier Miguel Benitez said on Monday (Sept. 23).

Benitez described Bantug as “an outstanding leader in the legislative branch and a reliable partner” in the implementation of programs and services.

He added that “the leadership of Bantug has been crucial in getting things done”.

Since the start of their term as mayor and vice mayor in 2022, the City Council approved 153 ordinances, which surpassed the 148 ordinances passed in the previous 15 years.

Within a period of two years and two months, the Sangguniang Panlungsod approved 1,365 resolutions, the highest ever, surpassing the previous record of 923 from 2010 to 2013.

“However, it is not just about the numbers. These are policies that make a real difference in the lives of our people and align with our six-point agenda, helping to make Victorias a better place to live, work, and play,” Benitez said.

He added: “I am confident that with Vice Mayor JunB at the helm, our city will keep growing and moving forward”.

On Sept. 20, Benitez said that he is running for congressman of the Third District of Negros Occidental, and endorsed Bantug for mayor of Victorias City in the May 2025 midterm elections. | GB
