The Sangguniang Panlungsod of Bacolod congratulated Handumanan National High School senior high teacher George Dela Cruz July 17 for receiving the excellence in public service and outstanding educator (Dangal ng Bayan) award at the 1st Hinirang ng Pilipinas awards night in Manila recently.
“Such achievement of Dela Cruz is exemplary (and) worthy to be given honor and recognition,” Councilor Simplicia Distrito, who authored the resolution of commendation, said, adding that the city government of Bacolod recognizes exceptional and noteworthy achievements that serve as an inspiration, not only to Bacolodnons but also to all Filipinos.
Distrito, chairperson of the SP Committee on Human Resource and Development, said the Hinirang ng Pilipinas is a prestigious award-giving body that honors outstanding Filipinos in different fields, such as education, arts, and public service.
Dela Cruz was awarded with the Excellence in Public Service and Outstanding Educator award for his remarkable and emulating performance as an educator, Distrito said, noting that the awardee used to be a local legislative staff officer II of the SP and former vice president of the Bacolod City Association of Technical Assistants in the Sangguniang Panlungsod.
Dela Cruz was also a regional winner in the 2023 search for Outstanding Government Workers of the Civil Service Commission; and awarded as “Advocate of the Month” and “Global Mentor” by the Global Schools Program of the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network for his active role as advocate and mentor in Educating Sustainable Development, the resolution said.
A former Bacolod journalist, dela Cruz was likewise awarded as the Most Outstanding Innovative Leader and Writer in the 1st IOER (International Organization of Educators and Researchers) Excellence Awards 2022, and the Outstanding Highly Proficient Educator in the Global Leaders & Educators Awards 2022, the SP added. | CGC
