Officials of the Land Transportation Office in Western Visayas, led by OIC regional director Gaudioso Geduspan II, met with Bacolod Mayor Alfredo Benitez and discussed the agency’s interconnectivity program, or single ticketing system, aimed at addressing perennial traffic issues.

“The proposal, if approved by Mayor Benitez, promises to tackle long-standing issues, such as the deputation of traffic enforcers, the confiscation of driver’s licenses, and the inconvenience faced by motorists in the payment of fines and penalties,” the LTO6 said in a press release July 16.

The interconnectivity of the LTO and local government unit information technology systems is expected to streamline processes, improve efficiency, and enhance coordination between the two agencies, it added.

Further discussions and evaluations will be conducted to finalize the details of the interconnectivity proposal, to implement a more effective traffic management system, the LTO6 said. “The collaboration…is anticipated to yield positive outcomes, benefiting the residents of Bacolod City, through improved road safety measures and more efficient transportation management.”

The LTO, under the guidance of Department of Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista, has been pushing for the digitalization of government services, including traffic rules and regulations enforcement, which is essential to the safety of all road users across the country.

LTO chief Vigor Mendoza II, at the signing of the interconnectivity agreement with the Baguio City government last month, said the interlinking of the information system “will be both helpful in terms of traffic management, in disciplining our drivers, and in streamlining the payment of penalties.”

The DOTr, through the LTO, intends to streamline traffic violations and fines throughout the country by institutionalizing this system, which is also part of the program of digitalizing government systems and processes to establish better interconnectivity among agencies, it added. ||
