Mayor Raymund Tongson congratulated bronze medalist Jamela De Asis for her feat in the recent ASEAN University Games, and is rallying support for Himamaylanon athletes, who are competing in the Palarong Pambansa 2024.
De Asis won the bronze in the Athletics Women’s Shot Put in the 21st ASEAN University Games held in Palembang, Indonesia from June 5 to July 6.
A resident of Barangay 2 Poblacion, she is studying at the University of Santo Tomas, and was among the athletes, who represented the Philippines in the games.
“Congratulations, Jamela, for bringing pride to Himamaylan and the Philippines,” Tongson said as he wishes the bronze medalist more victories, both in athletics and in life.
Tongson said the city government, through his office and the City Sports Office, continues to support and provide for athletes, who bravely raise the banner of Himamaylanons in national and international arenas.
Three young athletes are representing Himamaylan, Negros Occidental, and Western Visayas in the Palarong Pambansa ongoing in Cebu until July 16, a press release from the city said.
Arzequel Arabejo, a member of the Negros Occidental men’s artistic gymnastics team, is set to perform at Cebu Institute of Technology-University.
Kerth Sanri Salazar and Elizabeth Atilano will compete in the dancesports juvenile modern standard category at G Mall of Cebu.
“We hope that Himamaylanons at home, and those based in Cebu, will cheer for our young athletes. Let’s go for the gold!” Tongson said. ||
