A total of 18 employees of San Carlos City government in Negros Occidental have been tested positive for use of illegal drugs, Mayor Renato Gustilo confirmed yesterday.

Gustilo said eight of them are regular employees while 10 others are job order (JO) workers.

About 1,500 of the more than 2,000 employees of the city government were subjected to random drug testing by the City-Anti Drug Abuse Council this year in compliance with the memorandum-order issued by the Civil Service Commission (CSC).

Under the CSC guidelines, Gustilo said regular employees tested positive for illegal drugs will have to undergo confirmatory testing while JO and contract of service workers will automatically lose their jobs.

Gustilo said the city government will ensure that all employees will be tested to ensure a drug-free workplace. | GB
