The officers of the Himamaylan City Sangguniang Kabataan Federation (SKF) assumed their respective posts unopposed, during the election among the 19 SK chairpersons recently.
Jedalyn Pampliega, chairperson of the Brgy. Talaban SK, won as president and is the new ex-officio member of the Sangguniang Panlungsod of Himamaylan representing the youth.
The other SKF officers are Christian Bajar, SK chair of Brgy. IV, vice president; Marvin Presquito, SK chair of Brgy. Cabanbanan, secretary; James Ganaganag, SK chair of Brgy. Carabalan, treasurer; Abe Kay Caceres, SK head of Brgy. Buenavista, auditor; Tin Cervañez, SK chair of Brgy. II, public information officer; and Glaizzah Leony Prendon of Brgy. To-oy, sergeant-at-arms.
They expressed their support to the various youth programs of the city government.
City Mayor Raymund Tongson thanked and encouraged the SKF officials to comply with the requirements of the Department of the Interior and Local Government and the National Youth Commission.
The mayor said in a press release that the new officials must step up and ensure that all 19 youth councils will receive an “ideal functionality” rating in 2024.
As per the 2022-2023 SK Functionality Audit report released Oct. 20, only eight out of the 19 barangay youth councils in Himamaylan received an ideal rating.
Barangays III Poblacion (97.5), IV Poblacion (93), Carabalan (81.25), Caradio-an (93), Mahalang (88), San Antonio (89.25), Talaban (88), and To-oy (86.75) passed the evaluation conducted by the Negros Occidental Provincial SK Assessment Team.
Prior to the SKF election and oathtaking Nov. 14, the SK chairpersons and council members also underwent an SK mandatory training.
“Our SKs must never stop learning. The real measurement is how you apply what you’ve learned from the mandatory training,” the mayor stressed.
Tongson said his office and the city government have prepared new and improved programs for the Himamaylan youth in the coming year.
“All our new youth leaders have to do is fulfill their duties and make sure that our programs reach all young Himamaylanons,” the mayor said. ||
