The 1st “MassKaNamit Culinary Showdown: The Rise of Bacolod Cuisine” will be one highlight activity of this year’s MassKara Festival celebration, and the Bacolod Yuhum Foundation said this will be held on Oct. 18 and 19 at the Acacia Convention Hall.
This as the Sangguniang Panlungsod passed on third and final reading Sept. 11 the “MassKaNamit Guid Food Festival” ordinance, to complement the first gastronomic faceoff.
Authored by Councilor Jason Villarosa, chairperson of the SP Committee on Tourism, the ordinance, with funding of P1 million, aims to become “a food festival ancillary to the annual MassKara Festival…to showcase the Bacolodnon cuisine of all types and kinds”.
Villarosa said this is also in line with the City’s initiative in promoting the best of Bacolod, adding the city “is famously known not only for the people’s genuine smiles and mellow voices, but also for the delicious cuisine it offers”.
A MassKaNamit Guid Food Festival Council will be created for the implementation and monitoring of the ordinance, with the members tasked to oversee and ascertain that the products and services offered by the food festival participants do not pose any threat to the health and wellbeing of the crowd, enforce overall sanitation rules, and ensure proper waste disposal and segregation, among others.
Activities for the MassKaNamit Guid Food Festival shall begin on the Friday immediately preceding the third Sunday of October, with the highlights every third Sunday, the ordinance said, adding the venue shall be subject to change on a yearly basis, upon the deliberation and discretion of the Council./CGC
