There were already 13,879 candidates in Negros Occidental in the synchronized Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections who filed their Certificates of Candidacy (COCs) Aug. 28 and 29, as per records of the Comelec provincial office.
On the first day of filing Aug. 28, a total of 8,030 candidates filed their COCs in various Comelec offices, and 5,849 followed on Aug. 29.
Of the aspirants, 783 filed their COCs for barangay captain, 7,223 for barangay kagawad, 850 for SK chairperson, and 4,663 for SK member.
The filing of the COC will end on Sept. 2, with the campaign period to start from Oct. 19 to 28.
Provincial Comelec supervisor, Atty. Ian Lee Ananoria, earlier reminded those who have already filed their COCs that they are now considered candidates so they should refrain from committing premature campaigning./GB
